Tongo Eisen-Martin: Recording and Poem Links from Marjorie's Table 28th May
Recording and poem links, warm up words and final prompt from today's creative writing session using the work of Tongo Eisen-Martin
Good morning writers! We had 36 early birds at Marjorie’s Table today. If you’re not a paid subscriber and would like to try writing to a recording before you subscribe, DM me for the link to today’s workshop.
Today’s poet, Tongo Eisen-Martin, recently won the coveted Windham-Campbell Literature Prize. You can find out more about his work here, and listen to him talk with Sonia Sanchez here. As usual, some of our warm up words and the links to the poems from today’s session, including our take-away prompt, are below.
Warm Up - here are few gifted words from today’s live writers: flicker, gaze, sideways, surreptitious, bounce, pierce, deep, ogle, dart, linger - feel free to steal these for use in your own writing.
Poems - we looked at two poems today, starting with “The Patient Ones” and discussing craft before writing to two separate prompts in response. The final poem was “I Do Not Know the Spelling of Money”, and I gave the takeaway prompt to write about a cold-blooded study of something.
The link to the recording of today’s workshop is beyond the paywall below, but I’m very happy to send it to anyone who would like to try out Marjorie’s Table - just drop me a DM. If you’re not a regular subscriber and would like to join us for weekly workshops - or use the recordings of the workshops in your own time - please upgrade to a paid subscription (currently £5 for four workshops each month).
The next Marjorie’s Table session for Substack paid subscribers is from 7:30-8am on Wednesday 4th June, with login details emailed out on Monday 2nd June.
Happy writing, Marjorie
