Open to All Workshop Recording/Li-Young Lee: Recording and Poem Links from Marjorie's Table 25th June
Recording and poem links, warm up words and the final prompt from today's creative writing session using the work of Li-Young Lee
Good morning writers! We had 35 at Marjorie’s Table again this morning, though at least as many writers are writing to the recordings of these workshops in their own time instead. The recording link to today’s workshop - below - is free for all to access, in case you’d like to try writing with us in this way.
Today we looked at three poems by Li-Young Lee. As usual, some of our warm up words and the links to the poems from today’s session, plus a take-away prompt, are below.
Warm Up - here are few gifted words from today’s live writers: clemency, clench, bell, cherish, free-fall, relax, cleave, fold over - feel free to steal these words for use in your own writing.
Poems - we started by listening to Li-Young read “Big Clock”, and discussed craft before writing in response. (Li-Young says in the note that in a way the poem is “a very big failure”!!) We then wrote to “The Gift” before reading “From Blossoms" (image above) at the end of the session. The prompt for that last poem - apologies for forgetting it in the live session today - is to write about something simple you’ve brought into your home that brings you joy.
This week, the link to the recording of today’s workshop is not beyond a paywall but open for anyone who would like to try out Marjorie’s Table - it’s here, and at the button below.
If you’d like to join us for future weekly workshops - or use the recordings of past workshops in your own time - please upgrade to a paid subscription (currently £5 for four/five workshops each month).
PLEASE NOTE: I’m on holiday for the next two weeks. For those of you keen on your Wednesday morning writing session, I’ve scheduled an email containing links to poets reading their work and prompts, which will drop into your email inbox at 7am on 2nd and 9th July. The next live Marjorie’s Table session is from 7:30-8am on Wednesday 16th July, with login details emailed out on Monday 14th July.
Have a great break, and happy writing, Marjorie
